California's EDD will start to change benefit payments from paper checks to debit cards for state disability and unemployment benefit recipients. This change will implement in phases starting in November, 2010 for disability recipients and December, 2010 for unemployment recipients. This debit card process will be more convenient because there will be no waiting for checks in the mail or waiting in line at banks.
According to EDD, the debit card can be utilized the same as Visa debit cards at ATM's, retailers, bill paying and can be directly deposited to a bank account.
